Legislation Would Allow Brewpubs to Expand
For Immediate Release: April 23, 1999 Juneau -- The Alaska House of Representatives Friday unanimously passed House Bill 69, sponsored by Representative Norman Rokeberg (R-Anchorage). HB 69 extends the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Board, places limited liability organizations under the licensing authority of the board, and makes certain changes to statutes affecting liquor licenses and the practices of licensees. HB 69 extends the ABC Board to June 30, 2002. It also allows licensees to deliver hospitality baskets to cruise ships and hotel rooms and to deliver alcohol between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to a responsible adult for a social event. "One of the more notable features of this bill is the language which allows local governing bodies to place conditions on liquor licenses," Rokeberg said. "This will permit local communities to deal with situations specific to each individual licensee in the community." HB 69 also makes technical changes in the law which will permit expansion and growth of Alaska's brewpubs. HB 69 now moves to the Senate.
