For Immediate Release: January 28, 1998 Contact Representative Joe Ryan at (907) 465-3875 and Representative Mark Hodgins at (907) 465-3779.

Juneau -- The State House of Representatives Wednesday passed its first two bills of the second session of the Twentieth Alaska Legislature.

House Bill 199, sponsored by Representative Joe Ryan (R-Anchorage) and co-sponsored by Rep. Gene Therriault (R-Fairbanks), is the Alaska Community Property Act. It makes changes to the way community property and estates are handled and makes changes to Alaska Rules of Evidence.

House Bill 242, sponsored by the House Special Committee on Oil and Gas, changes Alaska Statutes involving the collection and accrual of interest on oil royalties and net profit share payments.

Both bills will be sent to the Senate for consideration.

Today is the 17th day of the 121-day legislative session. Committees have been conducting public hearings on bills since the first day of the session, January 12. These two measures, introduced last session, were the first to make it through the hearing process.
