For Immediate Release: February 23, 2000 Juneau -- The Alaska House Wednesday passed House Bill 340, sponsored by Representative Bill Williams. HB 340 designates the Ketchikan Indian Corporation (KIC) as a Regional Housing Authority. "KIC has contracted with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-determination Act to provide housing for low-income members of their corporation," Williams said. "HB 340 adds KIC to the existing list of 15 regional housing authorities and allows the Corporation to enter into HUD-required tax-exempt agreements with local governments." HB 340, which is supported by the City and Borough of Ketchikan, passed the House unanimously and now moves to the Senate.
