Juneau -- The Alaska Senate Friday passed House Bill 340, sponsored by Representative Bill Williams (R-Saxman), which designates the Ketchikan Indian Corporation (KIC) as a Regional Housing Authority. "HB 340 simply adds KIC to the existing list of 15 regional housing authorities and allows the Corporation to enter into HUD-required tax-exempt agreements with local governments," Williams said. "KIC has contracted with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-determination Act to provide this housing for low-income members of the corporation." HB 340, which is supported by the City and Borough of Ketchikan, previously passed the House unanimously. After reconsideration, the legislation will go to the Governor for signature. |
