SUBJECT: Sectional Summary of CSHB 119 (W.O. 0-LS0440\E)

You have requested a sectional summary of the above-described bill.

As a preliminary matter, note that a sectional summary of a bill should not be considered an authoritative interpretation of the bill and the bill itself is the best statement of its contents. Section 1 of the bill raises the small claims jurisdicitonal limit from $5,000 to $7,500.

Section 2 of the bill raises the jurisdictional limit for actions before magistrates to $7,500.

Section 3 of the bill amends Rule 9(c)(2), Alaska Rules of Administration, to increase the filing fee for small claims action where the claim for relief is for more than $2,500.

Section 4 of the bill provides an effective date.
