Appropriations for University of Alaska

An Act making appropriations to the University of Alaska for the establishment and operation of the Center for the New Economy and Technology and for improvements to computer science and technology programs; and providing for an effective date.

Section 1: Provides that $35 million from Alaska science and technology endowment (ASTE) will be appropriated to the University of Alaska (UAA) for the establishment and operation of the Center for the New Economy and Technology (CNET). CNET will be developed in collaboration with the Institute for Social and Economic Research to study the new economic paradigm and computer science and technology.

Section 2: Provides that $15 million from ASTE is appropriated to UAA for cost of connections, wiring, bandwidth connectivity, and infrastructure for computer science and technology programs and CNET.

Section 3: Provides that $10 million from ASTE is appropriated to the University of Alaska Fairbanks for infrastructure relating to computer science and technology and enhancement of bandwidth connectivity.

Section 4: Appropriations made by Section 1 lapses on June 30, 2005.

Section 5: Appropriations made by Sections 2 and 3 are for capital projects and lapse under AS 37.25.020.

Section 6: Effective date: July 1, 2000.
