Sponsor Statement for HB 131

In my opinion we need the death penalty to be reinstated in Alaska.

The passage of HB 131 will allow the question to go before the voters in the next general election as to whether or not the death penalty is needed in Alaska.

A majority of yes votes on the question advisory in House Bill 131 will direct the Legislature to enact laws imposing capital punishment for such a heinous crime as killing a law enforcement officer.

I urge you to pass this legislation. Place the question before the people. We owe it tothe Alaskan voters to allow them to direct the Legislature as to how they perceive justice to be best served.
