Alaska Public Utilities Commission Restructuring Updated: April 12, 1999 HB 183 restructures the APUC to create responsibility, and accountability through a strong chair. It allows the chair to hire and fire employees, and hire outside legal consultants. Currently the Commissioners have background requirements as follows: an attorney, an engineer, an accountant and 2 public seats. This legislation deletes the specific background requirements. This legislation does not allow more than 2 commissioners from the same political party. The Bill requires the APUC to report by February 1 to the Legislature as to the Commission activities for the year, including timeliness of docket activity.
