Airport Noise:
I recently was notified that due to runway work at Elmendorf Air Force Base this summer, some of their operations will move to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC). As a result, aircraft and aircraft operations not normally seen at ANC will be occurring -- such as the Air Force's E-3 Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft will be operating out of ANC.
Elmendorf's runway is scheduled to be closed from today through June 25th. The Air Force is working with ANC to keep noise impact to a minimum by conducting most of their training activities at Eileson Air Force Base. In addition, they will use ground power units as much as possible and engine runs above idle will be required to be conducted in designated run-up areas at ANC. Wind and weather conditions may impact their schedule.
Your patience is appreciated during this time period. If you have any questions, please contact Elmendorf's Public Affairs Office at 552-8151 or the Airport's Noise Hotline at 266-2648.
